That time of year is approaching, when the flowers start to spring, the days become a bit longer, and the weather a little warmer, that's right - wedding season is coming around quickly and I can't wait! For preparations I've been looking through my older work, going over notes for each couple and thinking up new ideas.
After doing a bit of reflecting, I thought I'd blog about Daniella and Ryan's big day. What a lovely couple and what a special day it was! It was a hot summers day in June, the ceremony was in the little old town of Ruthin and the reception in Faenol Fawr. There were elegant, feminine, yet bohemian and rustic touches; and songs by Elvis were used as the table numbers (a detail I absolutely adored!).
I've been so excited to post about this photo shoot, keeping it quiet has been so hard! Still keeping the final images under wraps is quite hard too, but sharing a "behind the scenes" post is helping tide temptation of sharing the final images everywhere.
Back in the early days of December, we made our way to the beautiful wedding venue, Soughton Hall, I'm not kidding when I say this location took my breath away when I saw the refurbishment. Rewind to the day I met Annie from Soughton Hall to discuss the photo shoot. It was in the Autumn, I was driving up the long driveway and autumn leaves were blowing in the wind in front of Soughton Hall and it looked so atmospheric.
Many moons ago when I used to assist local wedding photographers, I saw Soughton Hall for the first time when I was assisting for a vow renewal, and thought it was a lovely location for a wedding, but when I saw it again after the refurbishment, I was blown away by how much it had changed and how beautiful it looked. Still keeping its elements of tradition, yet has some modern charms in the interior. An ideal location for any couple tying the knot! Plus the colour scheme is blue, so naturally I was completely drawn to it.
It's always good to reflect back on your older work. As a photographer it's good to think "how can I improve" and "what can I do better?", it's a great reminder of how far you've come, you're further than you were yesterday and you're closer to reaching your goals.
I had a browse through my older work when I was looking at how I can improve and found this series of photographs I did with Tommy's Hair back when I was still a student in my third year of university. I looked at these photographs with fresh eyes and had the urge to re-edit.
The theme for this photo shoot was fairytales, looks were based off Snow White, Cinderella and Belle. Here's what the team created...
What a year. My first year as a freelance photographer, and what a roller coaster it has been. It's been a year of learning, experimenting and new experiences. Not only have I learnt more about the industry of photography and weddings, but I have learnt more about myself and what I'm capable of. I'll be honest, running a business by yourself is bloody scary. But you know what? It's also exciting! I love waking up in the morning and thinking to myself "Right, let's get to it!", I love planning what to do for my time now and what I can do in the months up ahead. It's also exciting when I plan where I want to be and what I want to achieve in the coming years, and having those targets to aim for is so motivating. Yes there have been bumps in the road along the way, but it's all experience you learn from and what makes you better at what you do.
So without further ado, here are my highlights of 2016...
If you follow my Facebook page, you're probably aware that myself and the talented Cara Slater from Coco Belle are running a competition together.
The winner will receive a free portrait session with me, and will have their makeup done by Cara, a great day to feel pampered and gorgeous, and to feel like a million dollars in front of the camera. You will get sent the final edits once they are finished and the shoot will be featured on my blog, it will be an awesome day!
This is a chance to have a portrait session in any way you like. Once the winner has been announced we will arrange a meeting and discuss ideas, whether it's an idea you've had in mind, or you want us to think of something together.
It could be...
